  • How Good Are Fleck Water Softeners?

    October 05, 2022 2 min read

The short answer here is that Fleck doesn't make water softeners at all - they make water softener components. When people pose the question "how good are fleck water softeners" what they very likely mean is "how good is a softener with Fleck control valve" whether they realize it or not.

The industry has done a really good job confusing consumers on this point mainly by naming softeners by the control valve that's used. The very best example of this is the Fleck 5600SXT - this is a control valve made by Fleck, whose parent company is Pentair. Pentair does not make a completed water softener called the Fleck 5600SXT.  They sell the Fleck 5600SXT control valve to companies that combine them with other components to make a softener that's ready to sell.

The unfortunate result of confusion is that consumers will see hundreds of different vendors who will be selling a "Fleck 5600SXT Water Softener" but each of these systems only necessarily share one thing in the common - the control valve. The rest of the softener - the tanks, the softening resin, the hardware - may be from many different suppliers and be of varying degrees of quality. And because they're being assembled by many different companies with varying amounts of assembly experience and expertise, it's tough to know exactly what the build quality is like.

Fleck is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pentair. The water treatment products sold by Pentair (brands like Fleck, Autotrol, Structural) tend to be of very high quality and are widely regarded by water treatment professionals as a top choice to incorporate into their water treatment solutions and sell to customers. They are a true "professional grade" product and their ease-of-use, reliability and longevity reflects this.
