The Aquatell UV Experience, In Our Customers’ Words

What to consider before purchasing a UV System:

    1 - Safety & Compliance
    • Certification & Standards: Look for systems tested and certified to NSF/ANSI 55 (Class A for microbiologically unsafe water, Class B for supplemental disinfection).
    • Electrical Safety: Many reputable brands carry UL, CSA, or CE certifications for electrical safety.
    • Local Regulations: Some municipalities require proof of Class A certification for private well water treatment.
    2 - Water Quality Compatibility
    • Pretreatment Needs: UV only works in clear water. Sediment, iron, manganese, or tannins can block UV light. Usually a 5-micron sediment filter is required upstream.
    • Flow Rate & Sizing: Match the UV chamber’s rated flow capacity to the home or building’s peak demand (e.g., 10, 15, 18 GPM). Undersizing leads to unsafe disinfection.
    3 - Lamp & Sleeve Maintenance
    4 - Monitoring & Safety Features
    • UV Intensity Sensors: Higher-end Class A systems monitor UV output and alert you if it drops below safe levels.
    • Alarms & Shutoffs: Many systems include visual/audible alarms and sometimes solenoid shutoff valves that stop water flow if UV performance is inadequate.
    • Fail-Safe Design: Consider whether you need features like automatic shutoff for critical applications (e.g., cottages, small businesses).
    5 - Installation & Practical Use
    • Space Requirements: Ensure you have room for the stainless steel chamber, power supply, and pretreatment filters.
    • Orientation: Most systems require horizontal installation with clearances for lamp/sleeve changes.
    • Power Needs: A nearby outlet is required; some models come with power supplies designed for long-term reliability.
    • Environment: Protect from freezing and direct sunlight. All parts of the uv system including lamps and sleeves should be disposed of safely at the end of their lifespan.
