UV lamps should be replaced annually because their light output (UV intensity) decreases over time—even if the lamp is still glowing. After about 9,000 hours (roughly one year of continuous use), the UV energy drops below the level needed to effectively disinfect water. Replacing the lamp ensures your system continues to destroy bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms and keeps your water safe.
Some UV lamps contain a small amount of mercury, similar to household fluorescent bulbs. When replacing your lamp, please dispose of it responsibly by following your local municipal or provincial recycling guidelines. Many communities offer Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) drop-off programs or recycling depots that accept UV lamps.
