Plumbing adapters connect your water softener to your existing plumbing. Threaded plastic adapters offer the easiest installation while copper adapters are usually regarded as more durable but do require soldering (aka sweating). Stainless steel threaded adapters offer the best of both worlds - ease of installation and extremely rugged and durable construction.

A turbulator is a device that moves resin from the bottom of your softening tank to the top of the tank during a softener regeneration cycle. This agitation helps to remove more of the absorbed minerals from your resin, increasing the effectiveness of the regeneration. A turbulator is valuable in very hard water conditions (greater than 15 grains per gallon) or when excess iron is present (greater than 0.3 ppm). Turbulators are a popular upgrade on well water. It's important to note that a turbulator cannot be used if you're also choosing to add a KDF-55 Mediaguard for whole home dechlorination. The two cannot be used on the same softener.

Fine mesh resin is an upgrade that increases the capacity of your water softener to remove hardness and iron. By upgrading to fine mesh resin more hardness and iron is absorbed meaning more time between regenerations and less likelihood of hard water breakthrough during high flow periods. Selecting the fine mesh resin upgrade is especially useful for increasing the iron-removing capacity of your water softener. Highly recommended for well water.

Remove harmful chlorine from for your entire home and extend the lifespan of your water softener and all other water-using appliances. This option adds a KDF-55 media-guard to the softener which removes all chlorine that passes through the system. Chlorine slowly damages all plastics, rubber, and most other substances. By removing the chlorine from your water supply you increase the lifespan of your water softener and other appliances. Chlorine in shower/bath water has been shown to have negative health effects. Add this option and enjoy soft, chlorine free water everywhere in your home. This device needs to be replaced after half a million gallons. The KDF-55 Mediaguard cannot be chosen as an option if you're also choosing to add a turbulator - the two cannot be installed on the same softener.

A brine grid sits in the bottom of the brine tank and helps to prevent the salt from sticking together. Some brands or types of salt will clump together and will eventually form a bridge of rock hard salt that will prevent the softener from regenerating properly. This device will prevent this from happening.

More About the 96,000 Grain Water Softener w Autotrol 268 / 762 Controller

This aQuatell water softener features the Autotrol 268 Performa valve with the Logix 762 controller.  This valve/controller combination is the highest performing softener controller presently offered by Autotrol.  As with all of our water softeners, we use high quality 8% cross linked resin to provide years of trouble free performance even on chlorinated water supplies.  This softener ships complete with the brine tank, brine tank float assembly, bypass valve, and your choice of plumbing adapters.

The Autotrol 268 Valve with Logix 762 Controller

This combination of valve/controller is the most advanced presently offered by Autotrol.  As powerful as this controller is, the Logix controller is very intuitive and quite easy for the average homeowner to program and understand.  This is a metered valve - it measures the amount of water consumed and only regenerates the softener when required.  Not only does the system measure water use, but a microprocessor stores these values and actively monitors daily water use patterns.  The system then makes self-adjustments to the soft water reserve capacity.  The advantage to the homeowner is more precise regeneration timing resulting is less salt consumption over time.  The Autotrol Performa 268 / 762 has a non-volatile memory chip that stores user settings and information even during power loss.  This valve features 1" internal porting providing superior flow rates while minimizing pressure loss.

Resin, Tanks, and other parts in this Water Softener

While the valve and controller are certainly critical parts of a water softener, there are many other bits and pieces required to make things work well.  At aQuatell our standard resin is made by Carbochem and is an 8% cross linked cation-exchange resin.  We have used this product for numerous years and it has proven to be an excellent performer in both chlorinated and non-chlorinated water supplies.  In a typical application a homeowner can expect 10+ years of service from this resin, and perhaps much more.  We are asked all the time about "specialty" resins made by numerous other resin manufacturers.  While we can certainly use these other resins in a water softener build (we build each softener to spec) we don't think there is increased value to our typical residential customer.  These specialty resins add cost without presenting much additional value.  Please call us for more information about this if you think your application would benefit from a specialty resin product

All aQuatell water softeners come with a brine tank.  The brine tank is a plastic container that holds the salt and brine solution used for the regeneration of a water softener.  All aQuatell softeners come with a brine well which is a plastic tube inside the brine tank that holds the float assembly (which is also included in every build).  We use a Fleck or GE brine float assembly (they are virtually identical, and of equal quality).

Connecting the brine tank to the softener is accomplished with the use an included plastic brine line.  All aQuatell water softeners include a bypass valve which allows water to be directed through the softener or directed past the softener ("bypass mode").  The bypass valve is connected to the household plumbing by use of plumbing adapters which are also included in our standard softener build.
