    Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment

Reverse osmosis water treatment is a highly-effective, affordable, and easy-to-use technology to create a healthy and pure water source for the drinking and cooking water needs of your home. Reverse osmosis systems are effective in reducing the broadest range of water contaminants and impurities.

Aquatell Canada is proud to offer an assortment of reverse osmosis systems that suit every need and budget. Choosing the right RO system can be a difficult task and we explain the features and benefits of our systems and how to select them below.

Reverse Osmosis Systems Reduce The Most Contaminants

Reverse osmosis systems, sometimes abbreviated to "RO" systems are the single most effective way to reduce the broadest range of possible water contaminants. RO systems are capable of effectively reducing heavy metals such as lead and mercury, chlorine and chloramine, pesticides, herbicides, sodium, pharmaceutical byproducts, industrial contaminants and many others. As a single technology there is nothing that approaches reverse osmosis in its ability to reduce the broadest assortment of water contaminants for the price.

Look For Efficient Reverse Osmosis Systems

All reverse osmosis systems have a pure water stream and a waste water stream. In other words, all RO systems will use some water to make water. Look for RO systems that minimize the amount of water they send to drain for very volume of water they produce. This is usually expressed as a ratio. Aquatell Canada is proud to offer RO systems that have a 1:1 product to waste stream. This is 3 to 6 times more efficient that typical competitive models.  This translates to a tremendous water savings over the lifespan of the system.

Quick Change Cartridges Make RO Maintenance Much Easier

The biggest difference between Aquatell Canada's more expensive and less expensive RO systems is whether or not they have quick change cartridges. All reverse osmosis systems are comprised of a number of water treatment cartridge stages. These cartridges eventually expire and need to be replaced. Quick change style cartridges do not require you to turn off the water to the RO system. You simply grab the cartridge, give it a quarter turn and remove it. An internal valve in the manifold closes and prevents water from leaking out. The new RO cartridge is twisted on and you're done. For systems that do not have quick change cartridges, the water supply to the RO must be turned off, and the system must be depressurized. For each cartridge to be changed there is a housing that is screwed off and needs to be carefully handled to keep spilled water to a minimum. It's a more difficult and messier system.

Certified Reverse Osmosis Systems Offer Consumer Confidence

Some of the reverse osmosis systems sold at Aquatell Canada are certified by a third party for their effectiveness against a range of water contaminants. This third party is called the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF). Products that successfully pass the rigorous NSF laboratory testing protocol receive an official endorsement that the system is an effective water purification technology. In the absence of this third party endorsement consumers are left trusting the claims made by the system manufacturer. NSF Certified RO systems are more expensive but offer a higher degree of consumer assurance.

3, 4, and 5 Stage Reverse Osmosis Systems

A reverse osmosis system is a technology that uses a number of different stages to comprehensively treat the water. Each stage has an important role to play in the overall treatment of the water. Almost every reverse osmosis system, and certainly those sold by Aquatell Canada, are comprise of at least one stage of sediment filtration, carbon filtration, and are finally passed through the reverse osmosis membrane. A system comprised of one of each of these stages would typically be called a 3-stage RO system. The systems sold by Aquatell Canada all incorporate a final treatment stage where the water is passed through a final carbon stage as it's dispensed. This helps to ensure that any tastes or odours picked up in the storage tank are stripped out before being consumed. These systems would be considered 4-stage reverse osmosis systems. You may see 5, 6, and even 7 stage RO systems for sale. It may seem intuitive that the more stages, the better quality of water produced. But this is often not the case. Usually these extra stages don't do much to improve the water quality beyond what a 4-stage system can deliver and add more cost to the ongoing maintenance of the system.
